Chief Executive: Clive Tobin

Clive TobinClive was appointed Chief Executive of Torus in January 2009 and is responsible for all the group’s activities worldwide. His insurance career spans over 20 years in the world’s largest insurance markets including Bermuda, New York, Zurich and London.


Prior to Torus, Clive was most recently CEO of XL Capital’s global insurance operations. He joined XL Capital in Bermuda in 1995 and in 2001 moved to Zurich to head up XL Insurance Global Risk, the combined global risk management operations of XL and the newly acquired Winterthur International. In 2004 he moved to London to assume the position of Chief Executive.


Clive began his insurance career in 1979 with Marsh & McLennan in Bermuda and New York and in 1986 joined Rockefeller Financial Services in New York to lead their insurance, brokerage and risk management operations.

Global Chief Operating Officer; Chief Executive Torus Specialty & Chief Underwriting Officer - US Specialty Lines: Naveen Anand

Naveen was appointed Chief Executive for Torus’ US operations in August 2009. In this role he oversees Torus’ operations worldwide with all regional Chief Operating Officers reporting to him. In addition, he is also the Chief Underwriting Officer for US Specialty Lines.

Naveen has over 20 years’ insurance industry experience with St Paul, Chubb and latterly CNA, where he was SVP responsible for its $3 billion commercial insurance business across all geographies. Prior to this he had focused on US business at CNA, and previously at Chubb, where he demonstrated a consistent track record of growing revenues whilst improving their underwriting performance.

Naveen holds a degree in Finance from Rider University, Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

Chief Financial Officer: Ian Campbell

Ian CampbellIan joined Torus in June 2008 and heads Torus’ financial team globally, focussing on the strategic direction of the group.


A chartered accountant with over 18 years’ insurance experience, Ian’s career has encompassed mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, strategy, multi-currency accounting, US GAAP requirements and US and UK stock exchange and Lloyd’s regulatory regimes.


Ian was most recently at Aspen group, which he joined in 2002. Between 2004 and 2007 he was Finance Director of Aspen Insurance UK Limited and a director of Aspen’s US operating subsidiary, responsible for strategic group financial initiatives, including capital management, group restructuring and group tax planning as well as their SEC filing requirements.

Chief Operating Officer UK & Chief Marketing Officer: Tim Fillingham

Tim FillinghamTim joined Torus on January 1, 2008 following a 28 year career in insurance, 25 of which were in the energy arena. He is responsible for the group’s marketing and sales activities worldwide.

Most recently, Tim was Chairman of Aon Group Limited Energy with full responsibility for the activities of the division, having been appointed following the merger of the Alexander Howden, Jenner Fenton Slade and Bain Hogg energy teams into Aon Group Limited Energy in July 1997.


Tim began his career in 1980 with Andrew Weir Insurance Brokers where he gained experience of the marine environment. He joined Alexander Howden Energy in 1983, and initially specialised in offshore energy risks but subsequently encompassing both on and offshore clients.

Chief Risk Officer:  Carl Groth

Carl is responsible for the development and management of Torus’ enterprise risk management programme worldwide to enhance the decision making related to the management of our growing portfolio of business, as well as the development of new products, entry into new markets and capital allocation.


Before joining Torus, he led Deloitte’s US Insurance Enterprise Risk Management practice advising companies on Solvency II related issues and readiness. Prior to Deloitte, he was Managing Director for Willis Group Ltd., responsible for its Enterprise Risk Management and Structured Risk Financing practices for North America. He has also worked in a variety of capacities at the Liberty Mutual Group, ultimately achieving overall responsibility for its Bermuda operations.

An Economics graduate of the University of Washington, Carl also holds an MBA in Finance and Investments and International Finance from George Washington University.

Chief Underwriting Officer - Global Property: Bob Klepper

Bob joined Torus in October, 2008 and manages Torus’ worldwide property underwriting and risk engineering operations, which includes general property, onshore and offshore energy, power & utility and construction underwriting platforms.


Bob has over 20 years’ insurance industry experience working with complex property exposures. He was most recently Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer for Global Property at XL Insurance, where he was responsible for all property underwriting and risk engineering operations for over 30 offices worldwide. Bob’s international career, which has seen him work in London and Bermuda, began in the United States with Industrial Risk Insurers and then AIG.


Bob holds an engineering degree from Clemson University, South Carolina.

 

Head of Compliance: Robert Mankiewitz

Rob MankiewitzRobert started with Torus in October 2007 during the business plan development phase before Torus’ official launch in June 2008. He is responsible for overseeing the Compliance function of the Torus group globally.


During the last 23 years he has gained substantial experience of London Market insurance in the fields of finance, risk management and compliance. Robert also has considerable experience dealing with regulatory requirements in many jurisdictions including the US, UK and Continental Europe. His most recent appointment was as Group Compliance Officer at Aspen Re, which he held from 2002 until August 2007.

Chief Underwriting Officer Torus Re: Tim Mardon

Tim has over 22 years of insurance experience and joined Torus in early 2009 as part of a transaction which involved Torus acquiring the staff of New Castle Re. He now heads up Torus’ global reinsurance operations, which has underwriting centres in Bermuda and the UK.

Prior to joining Torus, Tim was Chief Underwriting Officer of Citadel’s Reinsurance operations (CIG Re and New Castle Re). He began his career in London where he worked as a pricing actuary for Zurich Re and Terra Nova before moving to Bermuda in 1996 to work for Ace Tempest Re in property cat and specialty underwriting.

Tim is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK) and an Associate of the Charted Insurance institute. He holds a BA in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University, UK.

Chief Underwriting Officer - Global Specialty & Chief Operating Officer UK & Europe: Dermot O’Donohoe

Dermot joined Torus in September 2009 to launch Torus’ Global Specialty division, which will initially offer D&O and Professional Indemnity insurance in Europe, subject to FSA approval. He also serves as Chief Operating Officer for Torus UK & Europe.


Dermot has over 25 years’ underwriting experience and is a former member of the Council of Lloyd’s. He joined Torus from XL, where he was most recently Chief Underwriting Officer of XL Insurance’s Global Specialty Operations managing its Aerospace, Environmental, Equine, Marine, Offshore Energy and Program businesses globally. He was also CEO of its London market operations, assuming the role of Active Underwriter of its syndicate. Dermot joined XL Europe Ltd in 1991 as a D&O and Professional Lines underwriter and progressed to President and CEO of XL Europe and Chief Executive of XL Insurance Co. Ltd in December 2002.


Dermot is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and holds an MA from Dublin City University. He is also a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MMII).

Chief Underwriting Officer – Global Casualty: David T. Perez

David joined Torus in October 2008 from AIG to head up Torus’ Global Casualty operations.


His experience of the US casualty market spans over 20 years, 14 of which he spent at AIG directing the largest portfolio of lead umbrella business in the United States, running a high excess casualty capacity offshore subsidiary, managing large account business development and overseeing specialised claims services.


David has worked in both New York and Bermuda and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York.

 

 

 

 

 


Chief Claims Officer: Rob Powell

As Chief Claims Officer, Rob is responsible for the delivery of Torus’ claims products worldwide, personally engaging in handling major property and energy claims, including business interruption.


Prior to joining Torus in August 2008, he worked at Xchanging, where he provided a range of services to the Lloyd’s market in London as Head of First Party Claims. He has worked as an Independent Loss Adjuster for much of his 29 year career, reaching the position of President of Cunningham Lindsey International (US) inc, based in New York.


He is qualified by examination as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has Chartered Insurer status. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters and a European Loss Adjusting Expert - FUEDI (European Federation of Loss Adjusting experts).

Group Chief Technology Officer: Jeff Smith

Jeff SmithJeff joined Torus in February 2008 and is responsible for the design, architecture, implementation and management of Torus’ technology infrastructure worldwide.


Jeff has 17 years’ experience in strategic and tactical architecture, technology consulting, software development management and technical implementation management across a large number of high budget projects and industry sectors. During his career he has managed architecture and development functions, planned, architected, managed and implemented enterprise scale technology and business solutions and designed architecture best practices, development methodologies and technology governance processes across IT.


Jeff holds a First Class Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Greenwich.

Chief Strategy Officer: Printhan Sothinathan

Printhan began his insurance career in 1998 and joined Torus in April 2009 as Head of Underwriting Strategy & Ceded Reinsurance. He was promoted to his current position in February 2010 where he is now responsible for the identification and development of all strategic business and product opportunities across the Torus Group. He also oversees the structuring and purchasing of the Group’s outwards reinsurance program and supports Dermot O’Donohoe as Specialty Product Manager.


During his 12 year career he has worked in various actuarial and reinsurance purchasing roles at Navigators, Zurich and Tillinghast both in Lloyd’s and the London market.

 

 

Head of Global Human Resources: Jackie Richardson

Jackie is responsible for implementing the Human Resources strategy for the Group worldwide. She joined Torus in January 2010, bringing over 20 years of experience in Human Resources in the insurance industry to the role.


Prior to Torus, she was Executive VP, HR for the Americas at Synovate, a global market research firm. Her most recent role before Synovate was VP for Property and Casualty HR at CNA, where she oversaw HR strategies for their P&C operations globally.


In addition to an undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College, she holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard and her professional credentials include the successful completion of the Human Resources Executive Program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.


Chief Actuary & Chief Operating Officer, Bermuda: Andrew J. Turnbull

Andrew TurnbullAndrew is responsible for the oversight and management of the risk analytics function of the Torus group of companies, including technical pricing and catastrophe modeling for all lines of business. He additionally serves as Chief Operating Officer for Torus Insurance (Bermuda) Limited, and is responsible for leading the group’s Reinsurance and Structured Products businesses. He has served as a member of Torus’ Executive Committee since joining the Torus group in December, 2008.


Andrew has 19 years’ insurance and reinsurance experience, including the underwriting, pricing and risk management of alternative risk transfer products and derivatives. Prior to joining Torus, he managed XL Capital Ltd’s non-traditional insurance and reinsurance business, and served as Executive Vice President of XL Insurance (Bermuda) Ltd and XL Re Ltd.


Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Edinburgh University, is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Global Head of Business Operations: John Williams

John joined Torus in February 2009 and is responsible for business architecture, programme management, Indian operations, and the management, design, and execution of workflow processes for Torus worldwide.


During his 20 year career, John has worked with KPMG, Oliver Wyman and its predecessor firms, and most recently AIG, where he was Senior Vice President of Operations for the Small Business Division, one of the company’s fastest growing commercial insurance units in the US.


John has a BA in Political Science from Haverford College and a Masters in Business administration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
